Green Roof Construction – Waterproofing with Bituminous Membranes

Waterproofing of a flat roof with bituminous membranes and construction of an extensive green roof system. This system is widely applied on roofs of building facilities, on sloped surfaces, as well as on buildings that can support only light additional vegetation loads.

Application method:

• Thorough cleaning of the substrate is required, including removal of all loose or friable parts and complete repair of any damage.
• If adequate slopes are not present, they must be formed with concrete in order to prevent the accumulation of standing water.
• Application of a bituminous primer (cut-back bitumen) Arexol Lac, for proper preparation of the substrate.
• Bonding of the first waterproofing layer using plastomeric bituminous membranes. Hermesgum 4 Kg is recommended.
• Bonding of the second waterproofing layer using root-resistant bituminous membranes, to protect against root penetration. Cosmogum Garden is recommended.
• Reinforcement of membrane overlaps and critical details with bituminous mastic Plast Roof or bitumen-polyurethane mastic Hyperdesmo PB 1K.
• Installation of geotextile fabric with a weight of 300 gr/m².
• Installation of a drainage membrane Delta Floraxx, either plain or with integrated geotextile.
• Final planting of the green roof.
